14th Annual Hotwheel Convention Highlights
Friday and Saturday 10-6-7-2000
Included in this page are highlights from Friday, as well as Saturday. Before we get started, I would just like to say, Thank You to everyone that expressed appreciation for the coverage that we provided throughout the week. It was our pleasure!
On Friday night the "Redline Guys" hosted a little show of some of the guys in the club, most favorite cars from each of our own collections. We invited everyone to drop by and take a peek between 9:00pm and 10:00pm. The turn out was great. It was like a Redline party.
Also included as part of the "party" was something that David E. had come up with and discussed with all of us. The great idea was to have a Blister Pack opening celebration. We all agreed that it would be fun. So at 9:45, things got a little crazy and six of us "FREED" a Redline from it's prison after 28 or so years! Below are some of the highlights of the show as well as the opening activities.

As I drove home today from the year 2000 Hotwheel Convention, tired from lack of sleep and the running around I did this week, my mind began to wander. I thought back on the things that I had experienced during the week and the people that I had met and hung around with. I thought, what a great time that was, and how sorry I was that it was over. I reflected on the cars that I had seen and the things that I learned about redlines, in particular. How many rare and hard to find cars there were there assembled in one place. I remembered, the night that I opened the door to our room and there on the floor were six collectors huddled around a box of redlines, everyone talking about the different colors and the rarity of the cars themselves. I heard some one ask "how much do you want for this" and "would you trade this for that" and I smiled as I walked by and thought, this is what the convention is all about, trading and wheeling and dealing to get that particular piece that you have been looking for and sharing your knowledge with other collectors, "yeah this is what this hobby is all about".
Then my mind wandered on to the people that I had met. The new acquaintances. And the collectors that I see every year at the conventions and always say hello to but never really knowing their name. Their face is just familiar. And new friends, the guys that I have talked to by email or on the phone but hadn’t ever met personally until this week, now I can put a face to the voice or the name in an email message. And about the old friends that I have shared with and talked to over the years and how great it was to spend a week hanging out and joking around with them. I thought "this is really what this hobby is all about". As I continued to reminisce in my mind I felt a tightening in my throat.
Well, as I sit here writing this , I realize that the truth is this, yes, we share a common interest and love for these little toy cars and that is what draws us together in the first place but after that it is the people that make the memories that last a life time. And I can honestly say that at this years convention, I have met some special people, Friends. And I just wanted to say Thanks guys for making this one the best ever for me.
I can't wait for next year!
